Five persons narrowly escaped death at the National Assembly as one of the elevators developed fault and trapped the occupants for about an hour.
The incident took place at the House of Representatives wing (old section) of the legislative complex. Scores of people helplessly gathered around the faulty elevator praying and shouting.
Technicians who were deployed to handle the situation resorted to manually lowering the elevator to the ground floor before forcibly opening its doors to free the occupants.
