President Muhammadu Buhari has named Maryam Uwais as his Special Adviser for Social Protection Plan.
The newly appointed adviser on Social Protection Plan, a lawyer, is the wife of a former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mohammed Lawal Uwais.
1.She was a member of the BringBackOurGirls Group (BBOG), pressing for the release of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls.
2. She was before her apointment a Non-Executive Director and Member of Remuneration Committee, Stanbic IBTC Holdings PLC

3. Mrs. Maryam Uwais, MFR served as a Principal Partner of Wali Uwais & Co, an Abuja-based law firm.
4. Mrs. Uwais has over 20 years cognate law practice experience. From 1980 to 1987, she was with the Kano State Ministry of Justice. In 1988, she moved to the Nigerian Law Reform Commission after which she co-founded Wali Uwais & Co. She has been a Non-Executive Director of Stanbic IBTC Holdings PLC and Stanbic IBTC Bank Plc since November 2011
5. She also serves as a Director of Wali Uwais & Co. She obtained a certificate in Advanced Practice and Procedure in 1985 and another in Legal Drafting in 1989 from the Nigeria Institute for Advanced Legal Studies. Mrs. Uwais was educated at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where she bagged an LLM in 1985.
