South African government on Friday deported 90 Nigerians over immigration-related offences.

The deportees arrived the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos aboard a South African Airways aircraft with registration number BBB712 from Johannesburg.

They were received by officials of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) who profiled them before they left for their various destinations. It was the second time this year that Nigerians were deported from South Africa.

It would be recalled that 97 Nigerians were deported on February 28 at the peak of xenophobic attacks in that country.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Airport Command, DSP Joseph Alabi said the 90 Nigerians were deported for “committing immigration-related offences”, adding that some of them were living in the country without the required documents. Many others were earlier deported from European countries including Italy, Spain and Belgium, among others.
