Ikedi Ezekwesiri, a sitting member of Abia State House of Assembly, representing Umunneochi State Constituency, was on July 17, arraigned by the Police on a five-count charge of impersonation, forgery and false information. The trial was adjourned to September 25.

An Umuahia Magistrate Court presided over on Wednesday commenced hearing in the alleged impersonation and perjury brought against the lawmaker.

Ezekwesiri is been tried for allegedly declaring himself to be a legal practitioner in the INEC Form C.F 001 on Jan. 31, 2011. He also allegedly gave false testimony on oath preparatory to the assembly election contrary to Sections 192, 117 of the Criminal Code.

Ezekwesiri allegedly altered and mutilated the INEC Form CF 001 by inserting the word ‘businessman’ instead of ‘legal practitioner’ as earlier professed and presented same to the police, contrary Section 468 of the Criminal Code. The lawmaker also allegedly presented to INEC and the police a ``B. A’’ in Law certificate bearing Eze Ikedichi with 3rd Class degree instead of pass by the Abia State University.
