On Tuesday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) refused to show up at a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja following a suit filed by former Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Bala Ngilari, seeking an order compelling his swearing in as the Governor; Daily Independent reported.
Festus Keyamo, Ngilari's counsel told Presiding Justice Adeniyi Ademola that INEC had been served with the court processes, was likely to “care less about this matter”.
Other respondents in the suit acknowledged service of the court processes through newspaper publications, the means of service earlier ordered by the court.
It is unclear why INEC did not make an appearance in court. Meanwhile, October 11 has been picked for the Adamawa bye-election.
