Politics Adamawa Youths Want Buhari to Establish North East Development Commission

Adamawa Youth Initiative, an NGO, has urged President-Elect Muhammadu Buhari, to create North East Development Commission for rapid rehabilitation of the region, following its devastation by insurgency.

The group made the call on Monday in Yola at a news briefing addressed by its President, Hamisu Medugu.

"We want to call on the President-elect as a matter of priority to consider the establishment of North East Development Commission.This commission will ensure the rapid development of the North East region which was ravaged by the Boko Haram insurgents.

Medugu observed that the region now have large number of orphans and widows in need of urgent support.

"The region is now populated by mostly orphans, widows, the old and most vulnerable who are in need of urgent support. Hence, the need for swift provision of the basic social amenties and safety such as reconstruction and re-integration back into society," Medugu said.

He said that as a matter of priority Federal and State Governments should start reconstruction of all damaged bridges, schools, hospitals and houses among others.

He said that by doing so, the people of the region would have a sense of belonging and relief.

According to the group, the call for the establishment of the North East Development Commission is not only timely but necessary.
