Metro Agip Oil Facility Set Ablaze: One Perishes in the Blaze

An oil facility belonging to the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC), located in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Igbomotoru in Bayelsa State was allegedly set ablaze by suspected oil vandals, killing one person the process.

The incident occurred in an area infamous for its high level of illegal activities and refinery camps in the dense mangrove swamp of the area. The deceased is believed to be one of the vandals who unfortunately met his end in the process of theft. Other oil thieves also suffered burns and injuries resulting from the inferno.

The Media Coordinator of the Joint Task Force (JTF), Colonel Onyenma Nwachukwu confirmed the incident, adding also, “The cause has been so far attributed to possible sabotage by some disgruntled elements who have grievances with the operations of oil companies in the area.”
