An AirAsia plane with 162 persons on board has been reported missing; ALJAZEERA reports.
The plane, Flight QZ8501, was travelling from Surabaya, Indonesia to Singapore but lost contact with air traffic control after take-off. The aircraft, an Airbus A320-200 with registration number PK-AXC, requested for a different route due to poor weather before communication was lost over Indonesian air space.
A statement issued by the AirAsia on Facebook said, ''At the present time we unfortunately have no further information regarding the status of the passengers and crew members on board, but we will keep all parties informed as more information becomes available''.
An emergency call center has been established for family or friends of those who were travelling on the aircraft.
