The Alade Market at Allen Avenue, Ikeja is under siege by thugs, Premium Times reports.
The thugs are attacking traders, with the aim of sacking them from their spots so a private developer could build a shopping mall on the land, witnesses and Jiti Ogunye, a lawyer to the traders’ association in the market said.
Mr. Ogunye said he called the police to intervene as the continued fracas could lead to loss of lives but he was ignored.
On Wednesday Mr. Ogunye wrote an open letter to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode accusing the Ikeja Local Government of replacing open markets with malls through the backdoor.
