Politics Arms Deal: Obanikoro Offers to Return N785m; to be Released From EFCC Custody

Nigeria's ex Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro has agreed to return N785m arms deal money and could soon be released from EFCC custody.

The Nation reports that his friends and associates are rallying around him to raise the funds as a first step to secure his bail.

He is targeting N100 million as first installment of the refund.

From the Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA, about N4.685 billon was transferred to Sylva McNamara Limited, a company allegedly linked to the ex-Minister, someone familiar with the matter said.

N3.880 billion of the N4.685 billion was allocated to Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State and Senator Iyiola Omisore.

According to Obanikoro, the balance of N785 milion was "used to prosecute the following:

1. procurement of souvenirs for the promotion of anti-Boko Haram insurgency in Lagos;
2. N200million for surveillance activities;
3. N200 million and other remaining funds were for operations managed by Taiwo Kareem.

Jonathan Eze, Obanikoro’s spokesman, when contacted said he's not aware of the development. However, another source close to him confirmed it.
