The Islamic sect of Boko Haram has been accused by Human Rights Watch for the abduction and use of women and children as young as 12 years of age in their armed operations against the government of Nigeria.

Human Rights Watch said: "For a group that claims to be religious, Boko Haram’s tactics are the most profane acts we can imagine."
"The killing and mutilation of ordinary Nigerians, the abduction and rape of women and girls, and the use of children for fighting are horrifying human rights violations."

Witnesses have reported the use of children within the Boko Haram ranks during raids and attacks conducted by the sect.
