A new bride and 7 members of her entourage died on her way to her husband's house when their car crashed into a tanker. The incident occurred in Gaya, some kilometres away from Kano.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver lost control at a diversion point and crashed into the moving tanker. By the time help arrived, 7 females and a male were dead from their injuries.
The bodies have been taken to Gaya General Hospital.
The incident also led to a massive gridlock on the road as commuters were forced to wait for the bodies to be cleared and sympathisers to leave.
