According to a Vanguard report, fear gripped the APC and its presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari at the point where Prof Jega, the INEC chairman, announced the results of the March 28 presidential elections.
Vanguard newspaper says they were afraid not because they worried they had lost, because they knew a day before the fact that they were close to victory. Rather, their fear emanated from the uncertainty of President Jonathan's reception to loss.
The paper says they feared that president Jonathan would reject the results and summon his military might against General Muhammadu Buhari.
Hence, they were understandably gobsmacked with President Jonathan's sportsmanship.
