President Muhammadu Buhari's minister of Budget and National Planning, Udoma Udo Udoma, has shed more light on the proposed sale of national assets.
Udoma pleaded to those opposed to sale of National assets to hold fire as the government is yet to decide on assets sale in its stimulus package.
Speaking at the 57th Annual Conference of the Nigerian Economic Society, today in Abuja, Udoma said the issue is just a proposal within the stimulus package of the federal government to scale up revenue but is yet to be finalised or even agreed on.
Some prominent Nigerians such as President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote and the Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II recently hyped the proposal by the government to divest in the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas and Oil refineries in order to pump the proceeds into the economy to get out of recession.
Several criticisms followed the calls with the majority of the Labour Unions and some civil society groups kicking against the idea.
However, Sen Udoma said before any such decision, government will consult widely and give chance to hear views on the cost and benefit of it.
