Two of President Muhammadu Buhari's staunchest supporters Bamidele Ademola-Olateju and Farouk Kperogi ( columnists with Premium Times and Sahara Reporters) have published critical responses to the president's recent batch of appointments.
Farouk Kperogi Speaks
"I am a northern Muslim and feel "represented" in this government. But I want others to feel the same. Symbolism may be empty and tokenistic but it is consequential, especially in a deeply divided nation like ours. Buhari enjoys enormous goodwill across Nigeria's familiar fissures, and I am worried that he's frittering away this goodwill with what appears, at least for now, to be his lop-sided appointments. Of the 36 appointments he has made so far, 27 are from the north and only 9 are from the south. And don't give me that canard about competence and credibility. There are competent and credible people in every part of Nigeria if Buhari looks hard enough. Buhari may well pleasantly disappoint some of us his early critics after all his appointments have been made, but he is inflicting needless self-injury on himself to allow his administration to be defined as regionalist this early.
Bamidele Ademola-Olateju
"These all northern appointments don begin worry me. I'm getting disillusioned. It can only get worse from here. We did not work our buts off for nothing. This can get ugly quickly. The mouth we used to say good things can be used to say bad things o. I don talk my own please let no one tell me me to be patient. This is Nigeria where the fastest dog eats the fattest bone. All the femurs are picked already. Who wants phalanges? Ha!
Both took to Facebook to express their opinions.
