The Chief Executive Officer of MTN Group, Ahmad Farroukh, has resigned.
Mr. Ahmed Farroukh, MBA, CPA is a founding member of MTN Group Limited and has been its Chief Executive Officer of South Africa Operations since August 2014.
His resignation will take effect on 31 July 2015, according to a statement issued by the company.
“This was a difficult decision to take for Ahmad, but unavoidable due to personal and family reasons,” said MTN group president Sifiso Dabengwa.
However, Farroukh’s resignation comes during a protracted strike at MTN SA, the group’s second-largest network operator. Employees have been on strike since the end of May demanding better wages and bonuses.
Mr Farroukh joined MTN in 2006, with the acquisition of Investcom and has held several roles during his tenure with the group.
Farroukh was the former CEO of MTN Nigeria, and served in a similar role at MTN Ghana. Before assuming the role of group chief operating executive, he was vice-president of the West and Central Africa region.
A successor to Farroukh will be announced as soon as the new appointment is finalised.
