The shocking moment a crocodile returned a man it killed days earlier to the river bank was captured on camera and shared online. The crocodile reportedly grabbed the victim while he was bathing with his friends days before, then took him away, but can be seen in the video clutching the man in its jaws to return him to shore.

The victim identified as Syarifuddin, 41, was bathing in a river with friends on Tuesday, at about 6:20 p.m. when the reptile pounced and dragged him beneath the water in Berau, Indonesia. Friends and relatives looked for his body to no avail so they enlisted the help of a native doctor when police failed to find him.

The native doctor contacted by villagers specializes in "crocodile witch craft". He cast a spell for Syarifuddin to be returned alive. Soon after, the body of the victim emerged as villagers looked on early on Wednesday.

In the video recorded with the mobile phone of a witness, the beast is seen floating to the banks with the naked body of Syarifuddin in its jaws as the gathered crowd looks on. It then dropped off the corpse. Some are suggesting that the saltwater crocodile might have actually been guarding the victim's body from other predators seeing as it hadn't been eaten.

Though the victim was found, the native doctor's request that he be found alive was not fulfilled. Syarifuddin was found dead and had injuries to his ribs on the right side of his body.

Andi Resmin who was with Syarifuddin when he was captured by the predator said: "He was just in the water and the crocodile humped at him and took him."

Local resident, Eet, said there was a local myth that anyone bathing with clothes on in the river would be fine - but bathing naked would result in a crocodile attack.

He said: "If the person bathes naked, they will be definitely be eaten by crocodiles, for sure. If they wear clothes they will not be ambushed."

Police chief Inspector Talisayan Faisal Hamid confirmed the incident and said investigations are being carried out.
