Nigeria - A customs officer, Mr. Musa Yusuf has been promoted by the Comptroller General of Customs, Alhaji Inde Dikko Abdullahi for the the key role he played in the smashing an employment syndicate in Nigeria. Thisday reports.
Yusuf, a Customs Assistant 1 (CS1) was promoted to a new rank of Senior Customs Assistant (SCA) for his gallantry and use of intelligence which resulted in the arrest of Anas Abdullahi, and his cohorts who dupe innocent people by offering them custom jobs.
Elated with his exemplary behaviour, the Customs boss also decorated him with the service gold medal, reports say.
How he cons
Abdulahi specialises in impersonating the Customs Comptroller General thereby duping unsuspecting job seekers of their hard earned money by issuing fake Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) employment letter to them.
He stated that gratification for the job offer was pegged at N500, 000 while he had received N250, 000 being part payment before he was caught. He mentioned one Alhaji Hamza, who is still at large as his boss.
How he was caught
Abdullahi met his waterloo when he was apprehended by personnel of the NCS in the process of collecting payment from an unsuspecting Nigerian for two employment slots.
The service stated that unknown to Abdulahi while delivering the forged employment letter and collecting the balance, the applicant alerted men of the NCS who arrested him.
Apparently aware that the game was up, Abdulahi confessed to the crime even as he gave an insight into how he and other members of the syndicate operate.
His Punishment
Already, a case has been filled against the suspect for forgery and obtaining money under false pretense. The two count charge filed at the Federal High Court Abuja carry a maximum of 14 years and two years respectively.
