A corrections officer has allegedly shot his son after the teenager was caught shoplifting.
When 17-year-old Quasaun Smalls was caught stealing drill bits from Home Depot in Long Island City, his dad Robert Smalls wanted him to spend the night locked up to learn a lesson.
As reported by Daily News, the 39-year-old father was furious when police released his son with just a desk appearance ticket.
Quasaun came home early the next morning and got into a heated confrontation with his dad, which turned violent.
The off-duty corrections officer pulled out a 9mm handgun and shot his son in the midsection at their home in the New York City borough of Queens.
Neighbours said they heard a gunshot and yelling.
The wounded teen was rushed to hospital in a stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.
He called 911 after shooting his son, and was later taken into custody charged with felony assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
