The Independence National Electoral Commission, INEC on Thursday announced the postponement of the Edo state governorship election. The postponement has been greeted with criticism from majority of Nigerians while ardent supporters of the administration are in support.

Here are 2 reasons why the postponement of Edo governorship election was a bad idea:

1. Financial implication

Hours before the postponement, INEC announced that it has already deployed equipment and man power to Edo state. According to the commission, they were ready to conduct the election. Redeploying materials will cost the country more money - this is a very wrong move in these times of recession.

2. Integrity of INEC

The integrity of Nigeria's election umpire is now being questioned following the haphazard manner in which the election was postponed. The election was postponed barely 6 hours after the commission insisted that it won't be postponed. Who pressured the electoral commission now renowned for inconclusive election into back-tracking? .
