Oil workers under the aegis of Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) have faulted the call by the Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, for the scrapping of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
The Acting General Secretary of PENGASSAN, Comrade Lumumba Okugbawa in a statement, said instead of calling for the scrapping of NNPC, the governor should have called for the insulation of the corporation from undue political interference that could distract the organisation.
Comrade Okugbawa emphasised that the issue of corruption in the NNPC as alleged by the governor is a problem that has affected the growth and development of Nigeria in the oil and gas sector as a whole
He said this has hindered NNPC’s autonomy for effective running and competitiveness adding that this should not be a yardstick for the scrapping of the corporation as demanded by the governor.
