The Federal Ministry of Agriculture has assured that investments worth about $4.5billion is coming from development partners under the New Alliance Cooperative Agreement Framework/Grow Africa initiative.
This disclosure was made by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, (FMARD), Mr. Sonny Echono, who was represented by the Director of Special Duties, FMARD, Mrs. Ademola Abiri during the validation workshop on the New Alliance Report involving Nigeria, private sector investors and its development partners.
The New Alliance Cooperative Agreement Framework/Grow Africa initiative is committed to a funding equivalent of N100billion ($500) for Nigeria's agricultural sector for a three-year period.
Other international and local business establishments were also committed to making investments of about $4billion (N800bn) in the agricultural sector. According to Echono, the development partners, include the European Union (EU), France, Germany, Japan, United Kingdom and the United States.
The Permanent Secretary stated that the new alliance was a concerted approach geared towards developing the agricultural sector of the Nigerian economy.
