The Federal Government has approved the composition of a National Council on Power to reposition the power sector and ensure improved power supply to Nigerians says the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Power, Mr Godknows Igali, at the 6th Power Summit/Civil Society Organisations Forum in Abuja on Thursday.

Igali said that the council would comprise major stakeholders in the power sector.

He expressed optimism that the council would support the transformation agenda of the president in the sector and ultimately improve the power situation in the country.

The Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, said the conference would give industry players the opportunity to review activities in the sector and proffer solution to its challenges.

Nebo said the Federal Government had recorded giant strides in the sector, especially with the recent privatisation of the sector.

According to him, a lot still needs to be done in ensuring stable power supply to Nigerians.

The UNIDO Regional Director, Dr Patrick Kormawa, said that the deregulation of the power sector would go a long way to fast track the economic transformation of the country.

Kormawa, a member of the Development Partners Coordination Group on Power, said the partners would continue to work with the Federal Government to ensure the actualisation of the power sector reforms.
