Metro Fresh Crisis in Plateau as Gunmen Kill 11 Persons, Burn Churches

Fresh violence has been unleashed in Plateau state by unknown gunmen who attacked Gako and Tanjol communities in Riyom Local Government Area of the state early on Wednesday morning.

According to Premium Times, the gunmen killed at least 11 persons(6 civillians,5 uniformed security officials) and burnt down 2 churches.

Confirming the incident, Plateau Police Command spokesperson, Dominic Esin, said, "On June 11 at about 1 a.m., unknown gunmen invaded two villages of Gako and Tanjol, shooting sporadically and in the process killing 6 persons, and injuring 5 others. The injured persons where rushed to the Vom Christian Hospital".

He further added that 2 churches were also burnt down and that the police had since restored nomalcy to the area.

Despite police denial that no security operative was killed during the attack, resident have insisted that at least 5 uniformed men were killed and not wounded as announced by the police.

Meanwhile, residents have continued to flee the affected villages despite police reassurance.
