Nigeria’s new Minister of Defense, General Aliyu Gusau, who was earlier reported to have resigned, has come out to deny the report. Speaking to BBC Hausa, he debunked the reports going around that he had resigned.
Premium Times Nigeria speaks of Gusau, who was sworn into office last week, stating that the man has not resigned. The paper reports that “reports that Mr. Gusau had left office after an altercation between him and military commanders were ‘false.’’
Premium Times states that this was contained in a statement by a spokesperson for President Goodluck Jonathan.
Mr. Gusau didn‘t attend Wednesday’s weekly cabinet-meeting, a development which was given as the ostensible hint that he had quit the cabinet.
However, Reuben Abati, while speaking with Premium Times, said, ““It is not true that he has resigned,” and added that Gusau had missed today’s meeting of the Federal Executive Council because “he had flu.”
Mr. Gusau himself is yet to deny that he has resigned, or that he had an altercation with the service chiefs.
Premium times says that he is yet to answer/return calls or reply messages.
