The Returning Officer of the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KADSIEC) Alhaji Mustapha Bello has announced that the bye-election for Zabi ward in Kubau Local Government Area has been suspended, following certain irregularities.

He said that the suspension affected nine out of the 12 polling units in the ward, where the irregularities occurred.

“We have received series of complaints from agents of various political parties who disagreed with the outcome of the election in many polling units.

“We have no option than to suspend the election pending the decision of KADSIEC. We shall submit everything to the commission, which will decide a new date for the continuation of the election," he said.

He said the election was hitch-free in Shinkafi, Anguwan Waziri and Anguwan Sidi units, and that results from the units were valid.

Some officials of the All Progressive Congress (APC) had, while the election was ongoing, complained to the commission and security agencies, on alleged irregularities in the exercise.

They’d complained that ballot boxes for the election, which was necessitated by the death of the councillor representing Zabi ward in Kubau local council, had been snatched by thugs.
