Nigeria- A housemaid, Chidimma Ude, was on Monday arraigned at a Yaba Magistrates' Court for stealing jewels, valued at N1.2 million from her employer.

She resides at Good Home Estate, Ajah and is currently facing charges of conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Insp. Felix Ifijeh, said Ude and others at large conspired to steal the jewellery. He alleged that the accused broke into the complainant's bedroom, stole the jewellery and absconded to Onitsha.

Ifijeh said that Ude later returned to her employer's house in Lagos with her parents but without the jewels.

If found guilty, Ude is liable to three years imprisonment.

She however denied committing the offences.

In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Y.O. Aje-Afuunwa, granted the accused bail for N250,000 with two sureties and adjourned the case to Jan. 15, 2014 for mention.
