Lieutenant General (retired) Aliyu Mohammed Gusau is a former Nigerian army officer who was appointed National Security Advisor by President Goodluck Jonathan on 8 March 2010. He held the same position during most of the Olusegun ObasanjoPresidency. Before that he was in military Intelligence, and was briefly Army Chief. He resigned in September 2010, handing over to his deputy Kayode Are.
Abdullahi Sarki Mukhtar
Major General Abdullahi Sarki Mukhtar (Rtd) was born on July 5, 1949 in Kano State. He was formerly the National security adviser to the president of Nigeria. Rtd Major General Mukhtar was also a former military governor of Kaduna state and Katsina State, in the case of the latter he was the first administrator or governor.
Lateef Kayode Are
Lateef Kayode Are is a retired Nigerian Army Colonel who was Director General of the Nigerian State Security Service (SSS) from 1999 to 2007 and briefly served as National Security Adviser in 2010. Are served as an officer in the Directorate of Military Intelligence up until retirement by General Sani Abacha. Are was appointed as Director-General of the State Security Service by President Olusegun Obasanjo, served in that post throughout President Obasanjo's two terms (1999-2007), and was replaced Afakiriya Gadzama, who was appointed in August 2007 by President Umaru Yar'Adua.

Before his first service chief appointment (COAS), he was General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division, Kaduna.

Sambo Dasuki is a retired Nigerian Army Colonel and former National Security Adviser (NSA) to the President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan. He was appointed NSA on June 22, 2012 following the removal of General Owoye Andrew Azazi.

Mohammed Babagana Monguno is a retired Nigerian Army Major General and current National Security Adviser appointed on July 13, 2015 by President Muhammadu Buhari. General Monguno was Chief of Nigeria's Defence Intelligence Agency from July 2009 to September 2011.
