The Special Representative of the UN Secretary- General in MINUSMA, Mr Bert Koenders has condemned the recent attack on Kidal’s Airport by the Tuareg rebels.
The Malian rebels attacked Kidal’s Airport on Thursday, killing one and injuring five other persons.
``The attack is condemnable; it is purely against the spirit of peace and reconciliation which should be the driving force for the country at the moment," he said.
Koenders called on the Movement for the Liberation of the Azawad (MNLA) and the government to resume dialogue in the interest of the country.
The rebels had before the attack accused the Boubacar keita-led government of failing to fulfil its part of the Ouagadougou agreement of 2007.
According to MNLA’s Vice-President, Mahamadou Maiga:
``The government has bluntly refused to open discussion with us after the presidential election. This is against the content of the agreement,’’ he
said.
