Nigeria - The Katsina state governor Aminu Masari has directed that all accounts of the state should be closed in order to carry out investigations following suspicion of corrupt practices among the state officials.
The action has caused tension in the state's government with some local government chairman unhappy with the decision, Vanguard reports;
TENSION is now mounting in Katsina, the Katsina State capital as Governor Aminu Bello Masari yesterday directed the immediate closure of all government acounts in the state.
The governor’s directive is also to affect the accounts of the elected councils chairmen in all the 34 local government areas of the state.
Saturday vanguard learned from impeccable sources yesterday that the governor’s decision to wild the big stick followed an alleged report of massive looting of public funds particularly at the council levels by some elected officials perceived to be loyal to the erstwhile governor, Ibrahim Shehu Shema.
Results of the recently concluded council polls in the state had indicated that PDP won in all the entire councils areas when Shema held sway as governor, a development political pundits affirmed did not go down well with the APC administration which is now in control in the state.
