The International charity organization, Medicins Sans Frontieres (MSF), claims tens of thousands of South Sudanese are living in “catastrophic” conditions and are in need of urgent medical and humanitarian assistance.

MSF said in a statement that the South Sudanese have arrived in Awerial, in Lakes state, after fleeing violence in Bor. It said thousands more are arriving each day and living conditions are not fit for humans.

MSF said that its emergency team is supporting the two Ministry of Health clinics that are still running by providing consultations and supplies of medicines.

According to MSF, main priorities include the provision of clean drinking water to prevent cases of diarrhoea, vaccination of children against measles and provision of obstetric care for pregnant women.

Another major concern is the provision of food, which needs to be provided for the refugees soon.

It stated that since 1983, MSF had been working in the region that now constitutes the Republic of South Sudan.
