Alhaji Awalu Salihu, Head, Public Affairs of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) on Wednesday in Abuja called on interested companies to bid for the licence of broadcasting signal distribution in the country.
"The commission is very pleased about the announcement that it made, calling for pre-qualification for companies to bid for the broadcasting signal distributing licence.
``As a matter of fact, we have received 15 different companies which have shown interest to bid for the distribution of signal broadcasting licences,” he said.
The Presidential Advisory Committee, set up by the president to advise him on the issue of digitisation, had made certain recommendations in its report to the government.
Salihu said that among the recommendations the Federal Government approved was the appointment of three signal distributors that would have a role to play during the digitisation of terrestrial broadcasting in Nigeria.
He also added that the Federal Government had approved that the current National Carrier, NTA, would be split into two, comprising the hard (technical) and software sections.
