Politics Nigeria: 5 Reasons APC Should Choose Oby Ezekwesili As Buhari's Running Mate

After the remarkable thrill of a ‘democratic’ voting process in Teslim Balogun stadium where General Muhammadu Buhari beat his opponents by a landslide, the All Progressives Congress will be planning to ride on that momentum by providing Nigerians with a running mate that sways further people onto the opposition’s side.

Yesterday’s APC convention saw Buhari emerging as the party’s presidential candidate beating his runner-up – Kwankwaso - by an impressive margin.

The game has only just begun, however, as the choice of vice president will see the party’s shrewdness and perspicacity put to the test. What with the nation’s frowning at a Muslim-Muslim ticket, the ideal candidate for the vice presidency will have his work cut out for him.

There are others who are especially antagonistic towards the idea of a Buhari-Amaechi ticket. These people believe the Jonathan-Amaechi ‘fight’ is only a façade to block both ends of the barrel – so that if Jonathan loses in the forthcoming elections and Buhari wins, there will still be a South-South man at the helm of affairs. Who can argue with such logical brilliance, eh?

Don’t hold your breath now, but I have a proposition of my own.

Wait for it…

How about a Buhari-Ezekwesili ticket? Hey, think about it!

Madam Due Process – Or ‘Obie’ as we hope her husband calls her at home – gained the affection of the public a long time ago, and it doesn’t hurt her reputation any that when you think Chibok or about #BBOG your brain instantly conjures up that heartwarming image of her camping by Aso Rock until they were granted an audience.

We daresay this woman has enough ‘clout’ to match several men. Add to that the fact that she’s of undefined political tilt and we can readily see why conscripting her to the opposition might win some wars for the APC.

Anyway. I ramble. Here are the top five reasons I really think Obiageli Ezekwesili should be Buhari’s running mate:

1. She is a woman: In this age of women rights and feminism, wouldn’t it be great to have a female vice president? If not for anything, at least to forestall any annoying First Lady that might erupt somewhere along the line?

2. She has annoyed the PDP no end with her relentless attacks: An enemy of my enemy is my friend after all, no?

3. She has been in government before: Ah, yes. Who can forget her role as Minister of Education?

4. She is obviously an Obasanjo Ally. If this isn’t enough cause to give the Jonathan camp sleepless nights, I do not know what will.

Isn't this what they meant by 'Alliance for Democracy'?

5. An Ezekwesili-Buhari mashup (pardon that word) will reinforce the anti-corruption image
the APC has been trying to tweak for months. The formidability of the team will make all corrupt men quake in their boots and give Nigerians a reason to cheer.
