Nigeria - The 563megawatts (mw) Calabar and 960mw Alaoji power plants have been completed under the National Integrated Power Projects (NIPP), increasing Nigeria's capacity to 5500MW, Minister of Power Prof. Chinedu Nebo disclosed yesterday in Abuja. Daily Trust reports.
According to him, there has been significant increase in generation companies’ (Gencos) capacity since late 2014 as additional 936mw capacity has been added through the maintenance of the hitherto 160mw Ughelli Genco, 1080mw Egbin thermal stations; and previous 80mw Kainji Hydro, and 450mw Jebba Hydro.
“In addition, two National Integrated Power Projects (NIPP) Power Plants, namely Alaoji (960mw) and Calabar (563mw) were completed," he added.
"Recall that the 750mw Olorunsogo NIPP in Ogun State was commissioned a fortnight ago, bringing the total number of commissioned NIPP plants to three, with 434mw Geregu and 500mw Omotosho NIPP commissioned in October 2013.
"The appreciable increase in the quantity of gas available for power generation to levels that can support the generation of up to 5,500mw," he says.
