The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), on Wednesday sealed off a petrol station belonging to Oando in Maryland, Lagos, for selling petrol above official pump price of N87 per litre.
DPR operatives took the Oando Mega Station operators unawares following complaints by motorists.
Mrs Chioma Njoku, Head of Operations, DPR, Lagos Zone, told NAN on telephone that the agency sealed off some stations that had refused to sell petrol at the given pump price.
She added, however, that many retail outlets had complied with the directive.
Njoku did not give the number of petrol refilling stations sealed off so far in Lagos State.
She said that their mandate was not to seal off filling stations but to insist on reverting their pump price to N87 from N97 litre,.
According to her, the agency has directed its surveillance team to go round and enforce compliance.
``We are not going out to seal off stations that have not complied but to ensure that they reversed their pump price.
``The surveillance team can only seal off stations that proved difficult to revert their pump price. But I can say categorically today that many filling stations are complying with the directive.
``We don’t want to commence sealing stations to avert scarcity. Our mandate is to educate stations and dealers on the reason why they have to reverse their pump price.
``The agency’s team has sealed off some stations that have refused to comply with the official pump price.’’
NAN recalls that the federal government had on Jan. 18 announced a reduction in the pump price of petrol from N97 to N87 per litre.
Mr Seun Adeosun, Head, Oando Marketing, said the company had deployed technicians round Lagos to reverse of the pump price.
Adeosun said the technicians started with their mega stations before getting to the smaller stations.
According to him, ``we have only two technicians. This makes it difficult for them to take all stations at a go.
``We have over 5,000 stations across the country with over 100 stations in Lagos.
``We have instructed our technicians to adjust the pumps immediately”, he said.
