Nigeria - Professor Attahiru Jega, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, has apologized for the embarrassment President Goodluck Jonathan experienced yesterday at his Polling Unit.
President Jonathan's arrived his polling unit in Bayelsa and when it was time for his accreditation, the Card Reader failed to recognize his Permanent Voters' card.
Speaking on NTA yester-night, Jega said "What happened in the case of Mr. President is regrettable and a national embarrassment."
"It is possible his card was damaged" Jega said and added that INEC had apologised for what happened," INEC tweeted.
"As we know man proposes, and God disposes and we have experienced some challenges. Despite our challenges, we believe that the card readers have done the best for credible elections," he said.
He also said the turnout was massive and that the elections went peacefully well.
