The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has said it has begun the process to review its charges in the coming days.
According to the agency, it is not longer possible to issue passports at the current rates.
NIS Comptroller-General, Mr. Muhammad Babandede stated this at the flagging off ceremony for the capacity building programme on Information Communication Technology (ICT) for Immigration officers in Abuja.
Although he did not reveal when the new charges will kick off, Babandede disclosed that they had written to the presidency for approval.
He said: “It is not easy for us to pay for booklets because of the cost. You will agree with me that air tickets have doubled in this country. You are aware that a lot of things have changed, but the passport fees have not changed.”
