Amidst rumors of the election shift, the Independent National Electoral Commission has stated that it is yet to arrive at a decision on shifting the elections or continuing as planned.
Spokesperson for the INEC chairman, Kayode Idown, told Premium Times a few minutes ago.
In the past week, the Nigerian government and the PDP has been calling for a shift in the poll date, citing various reasons for its justification. While the INEC has insisted that it is able to conduct the elections fairly given current circumstances, the Council of State meeting prompted INEC's consultation meeting today, at the end of which it would address a press conference to announce its decision on the elections.
Responding to the AP report, Kayode said (in hushed tones, because the INEC meeting was ongoing): "Nothing like that (has been) decided by INEC yet.”
