Nigeria- According to Minister of Environment, Mrs. Laurentia Mallam, the federal government approved N9.6bn for the stove project in order to project the lives of thousands of women, who die as a result of inhalation of smokes was responsible for the federal government’s gesture.
According to National Mirror, she also noted that it would also help to prevent the incessant felling of trees, thereby shielding the country from the unnecessary exposure to the negative effects of climate change.
She said the criticisms were needless given the enormous challenges the mere act of cooking was posing to the nation.
She called on the stakeholders in the Nigeria Alliance for Clean Cook stoves to collaborate with government to entrench the culture of clean cooking in the country
“The stoves will be given to the 36 state First Ladies to distribute according to how they organize their things. They will also be given to faith based organizations, community based associations and any organized group.
“A committee has already been set up to monitor the distribution. This is a pilot scheme. We are waiting for the stoves to come. I am the head of the committee and I will ensure it reaches the right people at the grassroots. We are targeting the rural poor because they are the ones that bear the brunt of cooking with firewood.
