A suicide bomber blew up himself up at a mosque in Damboa, Borno State on Friday, killing six worshippers.
The attack occurred 90 kilometres away from Maiduguri, the state capital.
The spokesperson for the Nigerian Army, Colonel Sani Usman, said in an AFP report that the attack occurred around 5:15 am.
He blamed the attack on “two Boko Haram terrorists.”
Usman said the first suicide bomber had targeted the Damboa Central Mosque, but due to stringent security measures, he could not gain entry.
“Obviously frustrated, he exploded and died near the central mosque,” he added.
However, the second bomber veered off and gained entry into another smaller mosque and detonated the bomb, killing himself, six worshippers and injuring one other person.
Usman added that the wounded persons had been evacuated to a hospital while efforts were ongoing to clear the rubble.
He also said that troops and other security agencies had been mobilised to the area.
On June 27, two Boko Haram terrorists were killed in Maiduguri as they tried to detonate their bombs at an overnight Ramadan vigil at a mosque in Damboa.
The sect’s seven-year activities have led to the death of at least 20,000 people and the displacement of over 2.6 million people.
