Heavily armed attackers from Nigeria have caused havoc in Cameroon, kidnapping about 100 people, Reuters reports.
According to a local Cameroon leader the fighters have killed at least 9 people and kidnapped dozens, including children and teenagers, from a village on the border with Nigeria.
Tchakarmari village chief Kadzamare Amin said heavily armed attackers came from Nigeria into the villages of Tchakarmari and Kangaleri early Tuesday on trucks. He says they burned 15 houses, killed six men and three women, and kidnapped many.
Midjiyawa Bakary, governor of Cameroon's Far North region, said soldiers confirmed an attack and authorities are investigating.
While there was no immediate claim of responsibility, Islamic militants from the Boko Haram group have been blamed for scores of attacks in the region this year.
