According to South Korean newspaper JoongAng Ilbo, as many as 80 people were publicly executed in North Korea on the 3rd of this month, some for offenses as minor as watching South Korean movies or possessing a Bible.
They were executed in 7 cities across the country with thousands of people, including children watching. A source said about 10 people were killed in each city.
Eight people -- their heads covered with white bags -- were tied to stakes at a local stadium in the city of Wonsan, before authorities shot them with a machine gun, Fox news says.
There is however no clear reason for the executions but one government official noted they occurred in cities that are centers of economic development.
