The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared Eyitayo Jegede as PDP's legitimate candidate for the Ondo state governorship election on Saturday.
This follows his victory at the appeal court on Wednesday. After appeal court ruling INEC said it won't recognize Jegede until it received a formal order from the court.
However on Wednesday night Secretary to the Commission, Mrs. Agusta Okagwu, declared Jegede as the party's legit candidate.
“In compliance with the judgment delivered today, Wednesday, November 23, 2016, by the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, the Independent National Electoral Commission hereby declares that Mr. Eyltatyo legede (SAN) is now the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the Ondo State governorship election scheduled for Saturday, November 26, 2016.
“lt will he recalled that in compliance with the order given by the Federal High Court, Abuja Division, on Friday, October 14, 2016 (re-affirmed on October 27, 2016), the commission named Mr. Jimoh lbrahim as the PDP candidate for the governorship election.
“However, with today‘s judgment by the Court of Appeal, the commission, hereby, recognises Mr. Jegede as the candidate of the PDP for the said election.’’
