Metro Osun: Aregbesola Declares Monday Public Holiday

The Osun Government on Thursday declared Monday, Oct. 3 as a public holiday to mark the Islamic New Year, 1438.

Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, the Secretary to the State Government, made the declaration in a statement in Osogbo.

Adeoti explained that the holiday was to commemorate the Islamic New Year, 1438 AH (After Hijrah).

He enjoined residents in the state to felicitate with one another and imbibe the lessons of the Hijrah for their spiritual development.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the lunar month of Muharram, which is the first month of the Islamic calendar, begins on Oct. 3.
