Aliko Dangote's $20 million tomato-processing plant has been shut down again due to pest invasion.

The plant, located near Nigeria’s northern city of Kano, is aimed at substituting imports from China.

Recall that the in January, 2017, the Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote also shut the new tomato paste plant in Kano due to a shortage of dollars needed to import raw materials and reopened in February, 2017.

This recent closure is the third of such closures in months, in a blow to the Federal Government’s drive to diversify the economy.

Dangote’s plant opened in 2016 amid much talk from officials predicting a new era of Nigeria producing its own tomato paste, displacing costly imports.
