Politics Presidency Explains Why Pilgrims Will Get Dollar At N197

Senior special adviser to the Muhammadu Buhari has gave explanation into the concessional rate of N197 to the dollar for the 2016 Hajj pilgrims.

A statement released by Mallam Shehu reads, "The exchange rate of N197:00 to a Dollar was approved by the President about three months ago, much earlier than the the new FOREX regime came into being".



The Chairman of the Hajj Commission has confirmed that it is non-discriminatory.

It was approved for Christian and Muslim pilgrimages for this year. The CBN has offered an explanation.

I agree absolutely. It is even much better if the FG had said it will be subsidizing fees for Pilgrimage than say that it approved N197 per dollar for them. The naira has crashed to over N300 per dollar already. These are the kind of policies that kill the economy. Not all Nigerians will go for pilgrimage. This announcement only make one question the genuineness of the FG claims of cutting costs.
