The rainstorm, which occurred around 5pm on Tuesday, destroyed theatre, incinerator building, perimeter fencing, instrument unit, mortuary, new radiology building, 2003-2005 ETF Intervention Project building, among others.

The rainstorm caved into the buildings by destroying the roofing materials as well as tearing apart ceilings and allowing the torrent to sweep through the mortuary floor; theatre; instrument unit, and many other buildings.

It also had effects on trees as it broke their branches, collapsing some into nearby buildings in the hospital. And in the case of new radiology block which is yet to be completed, the storm damaged scaffolds and blew off some windows.

The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Etete Peters, said they could not determine the cost and extent of damage as they were still assessing the impact of the storm on some of the buildings and equipment.

If there were enough trees to serve as wind barrier or wedge, the damage would have been avoided. The world is going green now and all have to join in the campaign.
