Two games were played today in the ongoing confederations cup competition in Russia today. Here are the results:
Group A:
Russia 0 - 1 Portugal
New Zealand 1 - 2 Mexico
An early strike Cristiano Ronaldo saw Portugal beat Russia in front of thousands of their fans. Although he had other chances, the current balloon d'or holder couldn't find the back of the net. Russia however tried to mount a comeback and pressured Portugal towards the end of the game but couldn't score a goal.
Mexico on the other hand fought hard in an intense game to beat New Zealand after going behind in the first half. New Zealand's Captain, Chris Wood slotted the ball into the net after he got the ball when he ran into space.
Mexico changed tactics and began mounting pressure early in the second half. Winger Acquino inspired the side with his dazzling run inside the area and created the chance for the first goal, Jimenez scoring a stunning goal after a sharp turn.
Aquino then beat his man to the line to square play to Peralta who tapped it in twenty minutes later.
Mexico now top the group with four points, having more goals than Portugal, who also have four points. Russia sit third with three points while New Zealand are fourth.
