Nigeria - According to PUNCH, Bukola Saraki's main opponent, Ahmad Lawan was absent as he was elected Senate President of the 8th National Assembly.

Saraki (APC-Kwara Central) was elected unopposed by 57 of 108 Senators, with 51 Senators missing.
The other Senators were at the International Conference Centre with President Muhammadu Buhari to resolve the National Assembly leadership crisis at the time Saraki was declared President.
