Rwandans are going to the polls to elect a new parliament, with the governing Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) widely expected to retain its huge majority.
According to BBC News, the party of President Paul Kagame had 42 of the 53 directly elected seats in the outgoing parliament.
At least six million people are eligible to cast their ballots in polling stations which open at 07:00, with turnout expected to be enthusiastic despite a low-key campaign and the absence of any serious opposition to the RPF.
Helped by quotas, Rwanda is the world's only parliament where women form a majority.Out of the 80 seats up for grabs, 53 are directly elected and 24 are reserved for women, the youth and handicapped - who are indirectly elected by local and national councils on Tuesday and Wednesday.
